Make your bed every morning
I used to think this was a ridiculous thing to do. I hated making my bed and always thought it was a waste of time. That is until I started doing it. It was that simple. Taking the 5 minutes (or 10 depending on how elaborate your bed is) to clean and organize your sleeping area makes your day start off on a fresh note. Being able to walk into my room and know that it’s all put together really makes everything feel better.
Go for a walk
I think this has made the biggest difference for me in how I think & talk to myself. I started going for more walks when we got Boone in 2019. I would take him out every day and it was fine and our routine. When things started getting really bad with my job and the world started to end, that’s when I started to USE my walks. I was getting outside as a necessity for myself rather than to take the dog out. He and I would walk and explore our neighborhood and just breathe. I could clear my head and as weird as it sounds, I would talk to myself. I could go through and tell myself what I wanted and what I was going to do to make that happen. I know that not everyone can get outside every morning but I truly think that walking at least once a day has helped me find more balance and peace during such a wild time.
Drink a shit ton of water
Duh. Everyone tells you this is the answer to all your problems. But the thing is, it is the answer to all your problems. Now that I have been doing this for a while, on days where I don’t drink enough water, I can actually feel my body performing worse. I can tell I’m dehydrated, my skin feels tighter, my face will be more prone to breakouts and I overall do not feel 100%. Water cleanses your body and it can totally make you feel better when you feel crappy so just do it. Drink a shit ton and feel good
Play a game
This one may seem odd but I promise it’s so helpful. I think taking a few minutes every morning playing a simple game (on your phone or otherwise) can just help your mind get ready for the day. I play so many games every day that it’s a little out of control and I don’t exactly recommend that but 1 or 2 is a great way to exercise your brain. My favorites are Spider Solitaire and Mah Jong. Such a random tip but after years of doing this, I really do think it keeps you sharp!
Wash your face
Just like the tip about drinking plenty of water, this seems obvious, however there are still people who either don’t believe it’s necessary…or don’t do a good enough job at it. Sometimes no, you don’t have the time to do a complete 7 step skincare routine and that’s ok! But taking at least 60 seconds to properly cleanse and make sure your face is washed is a step I never miss. Taking care of my skin has always been important to me, but now that I’m walking multiple miles every morning, making sure I have a clean face to start my day has made such a difference.
